Fish Oil for Oily Skin???

Back in 2007, I was raving about Clean & Clear Oil-Absorbing Sheets, 50-Count Sheets.  Unfortunately, I had to discontinue using them because they contained mineral oil and caused new breakouts on my already acne-prone skin.  I'm not sure why an "oil-control" product would contain mineral oil, but that's another topic.  Over the past three years, me and my skin have had our ups and downs, but it had been mostly cooperative until maybe 3 months ago.

Little by little, I noticed that my face seemed to be getting oilier and oilier with each passing day.  Since I began noticing this in the summer, I attributed the oiliness to the tropical and humid weather and I wasn't too concerned.

As the seasons changed from summer to fall and the weather cooled off, my skin kept getting oilier and oilier.  It was getting to the point of being embarrassing.  I went to an appointment for an eye exam, and after I took my face out of the examination machine, I noticed that oil from my face was all over the chin and forehead rests.  I wiped them off with a tissue while the doctor wasn't looking.  Around the same time, my boo leaned in for a kiss and our foreheads were touching.  When he pulled back, there was a layer of oil that came from my face and onto his.  I was mortified.

After these events, I realized that something was really up with my skin that I needed to resolve quickly.  The increase in oiliness had happened gradually, so none of my friends or associates had mentioned anything about it to me yet, but I knew that it was just a matter of time before someone asked me what was up with my greasy face :-/

It finally occurred to me that I had been neglecting a very important part of my nutrition regimen.  In 2007, I began supplementing my diet with Fish Oil pills.  I can't remember exactly why I began taking them, but I'm pretty certain it was due to something acne related.  I had been taking them faithfully for the past three years, one pill, once per day.  When  I ran out of the pills a few months ago, I didn't think it was any big deal to reorder them because frankly, I wasn't sure if they were adding to my health or not.  Apparently they were.

Soon after the aforementioned oily-face events, my face started breaking out big-time, which was inevitable.  Anyone who has dealt with acne knows that this is a devastating experience, especially when you've been fairly break-out free for a significant amount of time, as I had been.

By the time I made the fish oil/oily skin/acne prevention connection it was too late.  I had a full fledged breakout on all areas of my face.  I rushed to order more of my favorite Fish Oil pills, Swanson 3-6-9 Softgels.
Multiomega 3-6-9 (Flax, Borage, Fish) 240 Sgels

After 24 hours, I could see the difference in the oiliness of my face.  After 1 week, there was hardly any oil at all.  I started off taking the maximum dose of 6 pills per day (2 with each meal).  The key to using this pills for acne and oily skin is in the Omega 3s.  Two specific Omega's, EPA and DHA, are able to help balance out androgen hormones, which can be responsible for excess sebum production which in turn leads to acne.  I will write more about this later, but for now I am happy to be getting my skin back to a normal condition.  If you have excessively oily, acne prone skin, this is a solution that you may want to research to see if it is right for you.
